Old Dominion Brewing Company was founded in Ashburn, Virginia in 1989. In 1994, the brewery added Dominion Root Beer to it’s lineup. Since then, Old Dominion Brewing Company has been sold and relocated to Dover, Delaware.
Dominion Root Beer’s label and bottle cap display the stag that serves as the logo of the Old Dominion Brewing Company. Deer do not have much to do with root beer, except maybe that both deer and root beer are universal symbols of manliness. Anyway, let’s not look too deeply into the meaning of the label. Let’s get to the soda.
Dominion Root Beer tastes a lot like your typical classic root beer. It is creamy and sweet and smooth. The only difference is that where you may expect a creamy root beer to have a vanilla finish to it, like A&W does, Dominion Root Beer has a honey finish. That honey flavor is smooth and sweet and is a good pairing for the the creamy root beer. The honey provides a nice change of pace from the common vanilla, but does not make Dominion Root Beer all that distinguishable from a host of other good, creamy root beers out there.
